Nissan GT-R 50th anniversary edition debuts in New York



Making its debut at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, the 2020 Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition takes the nameplate to a level that was unimaginable when it was first introduced 50 years ago. To celebrate the half-century of the GT-R, engineers challenged themselves to find undiscovered performance potential while still making sure the car can be enjoyed by drivers at any level.

The special edition car will come in three heritage-era, two-tone exterior color combinations meant to represent the GT-R’s liveries from the Japan GP series – of which the original GT-R was born to dominate in.

An Idea Coming to Life: Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign

From concept to reality in little more than a year, Nissan and Italdesign have created a new prototype vehicle – Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign – in their first-ever collaboration to celebrate two golden anniversaries: 50 years of GT-R, in 2019, and 50 years of Italdesign, in 2018.

Head of Nissan’s Global Design Alfonso Albaisa, Italdesign CEO Jörg Astalosch and Nissan Design Europe Vice President Mamoru Aoki describe the unprecedented collaboration between their designers and engineers, to create what could become the blueprint for a limited run of hand-built production vehicles.

The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is based on the latest GT-R NISMO, reinterpreted with a European-style sensibility combining Japanese performance and Italian craftsmanship.

While Italdesign developed, engineered and constructed the car in Turin, Italy, the distinctive, exterior and interior designs originated from Nissan’s design centers in London and San Diego.

Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign debuts in Tokyo

The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign made its first public appearance in Tokyo on September 23, Sunday.

Continuing on its world tour, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign made its way to the home of the GT-R in Tokyo – for its first reveal at Daikanyama T-site for a “Morning Cruise” event with media, Nissan GT-R enthusiasts and automobile fans.

Nissan also brought from its heritage collection, the 1996 NISMO GT-R LM BCNR33 and the 1972 Skyline 2000GT-R Racing Concept (KPGC110). GT-R owners in Japan also came in full force filling up the parking lots at the event.

The first-ever collaboration between Nissan and Italdesign, the GT-R50 prototype may become the blueprint for an extremely limited run of hand-built production vehicles.

The prototype commemorates the 50th anniversaries of the Nissan GT-R, in 2019, and Italdesign, in 2018.

Nissan launches the IMQ concept at 2019 Geneva Motor Show, an advanced technology and design showcase that signals the direction of the next generation of crossovers.
The concept is equipped with Nissan’s award-winning e-POWER system, and the electrified powertrain technology is set to debut in the European markets by 2022.

Nissan displayed its range of best-selling crossovers including the Qashqai and X-Trail, as well as the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe, the Nissan LEAF.

Nissan unveils mobile observatory – Navara Dark Sky Concept



HANNOVER, Germany – Nissan today unveiled the out-of-this-world Nissan Navara Dark Sky Concept at the 2018 Hannover Motor Show, proving that the sky is never the limit.

Developed in the UK in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), the concept vehicle functions as a mobile astronomy lab, featuring a world-leading, observatory-class telescope on a bespoke off-road trailer. As the latest embodiment of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the vehicle comes with ProPILOT driver assistance technology, which has been upgraded to make it the most capable pickup for safe and convenient towing.

ESA is mapping the stars with unprecedented precision using the Gaia satellite, which has already observed more than a billion stars. The Nissan Navara Dark Sky Concept supports this project by helping astronomers conduct follow-up observations of the universe from hard-to-reach, so-called “dark sky” locations – away from the nighttime glow of urban areas, which decreases visibility.

During a recent trip to Europe, Kazunori Yamauchi, founder and CEO of Polyphony Digital, producer of legendary PlayStation racing game Gran Turismo, met with Nissan to enjoy the most current Nissan GT-R Track Edition and Nissan GT-R NISMO.
For the very first time, he took the latest GT-Rs out on the famed German Autobahn and country roads around Nurburgring.

Nissan documented Yamauchi’s day of driving, as he shared his impressions and experiences in real-time.

Many Nissan models, past and present, have featured in the Gran Turismo games since the series was first introduced in 1997.

The inspiration behind Nissan's Formula E concept livery



Nissan has taken the next steps toward its debut in the all-electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship by revealing its concept livery at the Geneva Motor Show.

At last year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan – the world’s leading mass-market zero-emission vehicle manufacturer – announced it would debut in Formula E from season five which is expected to begin in December 2018.

As part of today’s announcement, Nissan unveiled its color scheme for the season five Formula E car, which features striking new aerodynamics and an entirely new battery and powertrain package.

The livery for Nissan’s Formula E program was designed by Nissan’s Global Design team in Japan.
